Abstract: | Technology is implemented in a variety of areas from our personal lives but also our professional lives. It is important that children learn about the functions of technology, its influences on individual and societal level and what influence they can have on it. Informatics is an elective subject within Dutch secondary school education and could greatly help with this education. Not only does informatics as a subject cover the more technical sides of technology, like computer networks and programming, it covers the societal aspects as well. This graduation project aims to find a way to enthuse these secondary school pupils to incorporate informatics within their upper secondary school curriculum. Through extensive surveys that target the main user-groups, the secondary school pupils and the informatics teachers and by referencing scientific papers about effective computer science-related education, improvements and effective teaching methods are found. The resulting quartets card game aims to do exactly that. By accompanying the information provision of the secondary school, the quartets game helps present the various topics covered within the informatics subject to the pupils. The card game works as intended and presents these topics in a fun, attractive and interactive way. |
