Abstract:The rise in life spans pressurizes governmental facilities and families to provide care for older adults. The current study examined this issue by investigating the relationship of participant’s cultural values and their preferences towards care arrangements. It was further examined whether the relations remained stable when they were controlled for demographic and contextual variables as well as attitudes towards older adults. The research question resulted in whether cultural values predict preferences for care arrangements for older adults. Participants high in interdependent self-construal and honor values were expected to prefer informal care arrangements and those high in independent self-construal to prefer formal care arrangements.
