Abstract:Competitiveness is an important and interesting topic for business and policy makers in the majority of nations and regions across the globe. The agricultural industry is one of these industries that is highly competitive. This has to do with the increase of food production and that agricultural innovation in technology and science are essential to promote rural development and reducing poverty. A model that has been investigated by many researchers, is Porter’s Diamond (1990). The extension of this diamond, the Generalized Double Diamond by Moon, Rugman and Verbeke (1998) can be used by organizations to measure their competitiveness in their domestic market and in an international market. The Generalized Double Diamond was applied in order to answer the following research question: To what extent is the Generalized Double Diamond Model useable for agricultural businesses to determine their competitiveness in European nations? To answer this question, a case study was set up around Company X. Via qualitative data gathering, the researcher found that some of the factors have more importance than others. Second, the circumstances of both markets cannot have insurmountable differences. Third, the model needs to suit the size of the organization.
