Abstract: | This research explores opportunities for improvement within the Master Production Schedule. The conclusions and recommendations made can be used as a starting point for a continuous improvement project for the whole Manufacturing Resources Planning. The thesis has three focus points: - Master Production Schedule. The MPS is the first phase in any production process and therefore has a lot of impact on the subsequent production and purchasing plans. This research explores techniques that help stabilizing the MPS, creating a solid base for the whole process. - Demand. Demand is the main input of the MPS. This research identifies and measures a couple of demand characteristics. Understanding these helps decision-making when creating the production schedule. - Forecast accuracy. Production and purchasing plans are created based on the forecasts delivered by clients. hen the Master Production Schedule relies on the forecast data of the clients, issues might occur when the data is faulty. Once the accuracy of the forecasts is known, DP can take actions that prevent these scheduling issues. |
