Abstract: | Wouldn’t it be fantastic if people would be able to use their voice to get information, make appointments and order services or “goods”? A couple of commands and your (daily) groceries are done. Well, the future is here. With the increasing need to do more handsfree whether it’s amidst a world pandemic or for convenience reasons, Voice Commerce is developing at a rapid pace. More and more people are purchasing Smart Speakers for their homes, creating the perfect setting to shop online by voice. However, nowadays paying for your online purchases can be a clumsy process, involving authentication methods such as PIN-codes or other passwords that you need to remember and, often, needs to input on a small screen. Wouldn’t it be great if we can “pay with our voice” as well? This document deals with the various issues involved in using Human Language Technology to “pay with your voice”. How does it work, what are the technical and privacy obstacles that need to be overcome? And if they are taken, what would shopping AND paying with your voice look like? |
