Abstract: | This thesis argues that a morally justifiable case can be made for human migration to Mars if a pragmatist perspective is adopted. Pragmatism can make a valuable contribution by drawing our attention to the moral vocabularies at work in the debate. In addition, following John Dewey, approaching our ethics as democratic and experimental inquiry means that we focus on consequences rather than abstract philosophical principles. A democratic approach makes us better able to address the inherent injustices of Mars migration and thereby make a morally justifiable case. |
