Abstract: | This study examines the effect of board diversity on firm performance of 100 Dutch firms listed on the Euronext Amsterdam for the years 2018 and 2019. Firm performance is measured by return on assets, return on equity, and Tobin´s Q. The board diversity characteristics that are examined are gender, age, and nationality. In order to examine the effect of board diversity on firm performance, the ordinary least squares (OLS) regression analysis is performed. This study finds that diversity on boards does not affect firm performance. First, the results show no relationship between gender diversity and firm performance. Second, the results show limited evidence for a positive effect of age diversity on firm performance. However, based on the major results the conclusion can be drawn that age diversity does not affect firm performance. Last, nationality diversity has no effect on firm performance. The overall results of this study show that board diversity does not influence firm performance. |
