Abstract: | This study presents a novel method to incorporate functionality-privacy trade-offs in the design methods of Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) solutions, in an attempt to address personal data protection challenges in the design and development of practical MaaS solutions. The supporting analysis builds on a comprehensive literature analysis of the MaaS research field, which considers both concepts and characteristics most cited in academia as well as industry and government. Moreover, a conceptual framework for MaaS is developed, and subsequently used to determine prominent research gaps in the research area. The proposed method to incorporate functionality-privacy trade-offs is data-driven and based on a comparative analysis of existing mobility applications published in the Google Play store, as well as a user survey on expected functionality and privacy considerations. The method is adaptive, leverages assorted levels of privacy, and considerations for use in both Disciplined Agile Delivery (DAD) and The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) are presented. Finally, the findings and methods presented in this study are discussed in a broader context and areas suitable for further research are highlighted. |
