Abstract: | The DHS of the UMC Utrecht hospital experiences a general lack of insight in their patient treatment processes and ability to experiment with their processes. In order to estimate the efficacy of converting several minimally invasive surgeries to that of a day-treatment and implementing a new day-treatment clinic for one of the medical specialities the DHS manages, this study aims to design a discrete-event simulation model to experiment with and measure the effects of these new day-treatments on access times, waiting list sizes, production volume and usage of capacity. The results indicate that the overall effect of the new day-treatment process is positive and thus the study recommends to implementing the new day-treatment process. |
