Abstract:This thesis is about the reduction of travel distance for the storage and retrieval of goods in the warehouse of Bolletje Almelo. Based on an analysis, a class-based storage policy is appropriate for this problem. The problem can be characterised as a storage location assignment problem for a unit-load warehouse. The problem is solved by means of a mathematical model, heuristic and meta-heuristic (simulated annealing). Various types of experiments are done. Improvements ranged from 12.2% to 52.2%.
