Abstract:At VDL Energy Systems, the total costs of ownership of stock materials are identified. The logistics flows the moment stock materials are purchased until the moment of using it by the mechanics are identified. The involved costs are calculated. This has been done in order to optimize the logistics processes and for making strategic decisions beforehand. By executing an activity-based costing analysis, major activities have been monitored at the procurement, production control, production, and logistics department. The processes are mapped by observation study and value stream mapping. Based on time measurements, the total costs of ownership for the logistics flows are calculated. These calculations are modeled to calculate costs for multiple materials.
