Abstract: | In this research, the connection between inventory management for high value spare parts and a service control tower is being examined. The weaknesses of inventory for high value spare parts are determined through literature reviews and data provided by the organization at which the research was conducted. These are compared to the strengths that a service control tower can offer to find any overlap. The key weakness of the inventory of spare parts were the high lead times and the difficult demand patterns, which made forecasting challenging. Proposed was to allow the control tower to forecast on an operational level, using the status of spares throughout the supply chain as well as the number of items that are unavailable for use, to support forecasting accuracy. In addition to this, having the control tower use order monitoring to identify supplying risks beforehand, in support of supply stability. |
