Abstract: | This thesis investigated the association between the two emotions happiness and anger in daily life. The relationship was tested on a trait to trait level and a state to state level. Also, a lagged analysis was conducted to check for the state to state level association over time. For this and Experience Sampling study was conducted over one week using a sample of 34 mostly german (65% female) young adults. The results of a multilevel analysis showed no association between trait happiness and trait anger, a negative association between state happiness and state anger, and a negative association between state anger and lagged state happiness. This indicated that on a state level the two emotions show a negative relationship and that this negative relationship does not carry over to the trait level. It also showed that higher anger showed lower happiness after two hours and vice versa. Thus, understanding this relationship better could help in designing new interventions for the clinical and private setting on anger. |
