Abstract: | This research aims to improve the tactical production planning of a plant of FrieslandCampina. Over the years there have been many changes in the products that are made in Aalter. FrieslandCampina works with production drumbeat patterns that are manually created based on common sense. We have created a mixed integer linear programming model, based on the Capacitated Lot sizing Problem (CLSP), that minimizes the total costs of the plant. For certain instances the computation time is too long for practical use, therefore several experiments are executed to obtain feasible solutions in reasonable time. First steps are done towards column generation. In addition to the FrieslandCampina case study, we have collected valuable information about the production process and the different cost drivers to better understand the production process of the plant in Aalter. |
