Abstract: | The research in this bachelor is intended to contribute to the field of purchasing by exploring how data management can be integrated into the roles of purchasing professionals. Previous studies have identified seven potential future professional purchasing roles. Two of those roles are concerned with components of data management, being: the master data manager and the data analyst. However, little is known about how these roles can be implemented within an organization to further support data management. A multiple case study, involving eight manufacturing organizations, was conducted to explore how data management can be integrated into the roles of purchasing professionals. Based on the study, a model was developed that outlines how the eight industries desire purchasing data management to be. The model builds on existing literature as it gives more information about how the master data manager and data analyst could be stationed within an organization. Furthermore, the two roles are given more shape as objectives, activities, and desired skill and competency profiles were formulated. Through the implementation of the developed model, data management can be integrated into the roles of purchasing professionals. |
