Abstract:Scania Production Zwolle produces a wide variety of trucks. The high consumption logistic process supplies pallets to the assembly line using a two-bin Kanban system. Scania suspects that the productivity of the process is low. Also, due to the increasing number of parts, Scania no longer expects to have enough surface at the assembly line in the future to store the extra pallets required for them. The process is divided into several delivery zones. The layout of a delivery zone consists of consumption locations and a decentralized location from which the consumption locations are supplied. This research proposes a new layout for delivery zones in which travel time is minimized, delivery zones are more evenly balanced and a specified service level is maintained. The problem is solved with a heuristic and metaheuristic. Furthermore, several scenarios are evaluated to increase productivity and reduce the surface needed at the assembly line.
