Abstract: | This thesis will test the importance of feelings of societal appreciation on protest behaviour. Until now, studies on protest behaviour have not been focused on the importance of the feeling of societal appreciation. There are many cases where protesters named unappreciation as one of their reasons to protest. The question that remains is: to what extent this is a motivator for participating in a demonstration. There are probably many people who feel unappreciated, but not everyone takes to the streets. For this study, 10 farmers will be interviewed on their participation in the protests which happened in October of 2019. To obtain the best knowledge on the effects of the feeling of societal appreciation the farmers who are selected will be the ones who did participate and who did not participate in these protests. These will be compared to their idea of societal appreciation and place in society. The goal of this research is to find out to what extent the feeling of societal appreciation played a role in choosing to participate in the demonstration. |
