Abstract: | This report examines the use of a serious board game as a tool for smart city planners to reflect on value dynamics in the urban sphere. Emerging technology implemented in a smart city has an effect on the values of citizens. Technology can induce value change and this value dynamism affects the city. Smart city planners are encouraged to consider the ethics of technologies they implement. To support the city planners in this, a serious board game was developed. The most useful elements of the game in supporting this reflection were analysed. The results show that making value dynamics tangible through different game elements, and engaging the participants in conversation through different game elements aided in the reflection. These insights contribute to the ethical debate by showing that a serious board game can be of use when discussing ethical questions. |
