Abstract: | The demand for hospital healthcare services will increase in the near future. To relieve the pressure on the oncology day care wards, the administration of oncology medication has been relocated to patients’ homes. It could be possible that there is an insufficient nursing capacity to meet the demand for home-based oncology care in the future. As a result, the integration of technological innovations may become a prerequisite, which will change the role of oncology nurses. The aim of this study was to gain insight into the way home-based oncology care can be organized to optimize medication@home and to meet future requirements. This study particularly focused on the role and job satisfaction of oncology nurses. A mixed-method approach was used to investigate the expectations of oncology nurses regarding their future role for home-based oncology care. For this, the (expected) satisfaction of oncology nurses with their current and future roles were taken into account. Recommendations for the role of oncology nurses and the organization of home-based oncology care are given. |
