Abstract: | Peddler is an electronic marketplace that aims to connect all types of local retailers with their customers, by delivering the products the same day on electrical cargo bikes. The availability of products on Peddler depends on the varying inventory management systems of the local retailers. For many local retailers this is not digitalized. They must send their inventory updates manually. This research explores the options of reaching a direct integration for these unintegrated stores. One final method is sought out based on ten initial techniques. These ten techniques are established by literature research and analysis of the company data. They are evaluated according to key performance indicators, based on qualitative data gathered through semi-structured interviews amongst the Peddler employees and a sample group of retailers. The final method concludes to consist of two processes applicable in two different scenarios, and four supporting techniques. Optimizing and supporting the existing merchant portal concluded to be essential for all unintegrated stores. With one exception for local retailers who have a good but not integrated POS systems. For them an upload platform for POS exports is best to update all their products at once. For the techniques supporting the process, it is essential that the technique alleviates effort while being interesting to use or to have access to, or the techniques need to add to personal support and guidance, which is a key value in the Peddler methodology. The final method offers a detailed and supported plan of approach for Peddler to improve the processes for unintegrated stores. However, it is essential to closely monitor and evaluate the implementation and execution of the method. Both Peddler and the involved retailers need to be involved in this part to realize the method as intended. |
