Abstract: | This research looked into a way to measure well-being through spoken interaction with a conversational agent. Firstly, the definition of well-being, both philosophical and psychological, was studied. From this literature review, the Flourishing Scale and subjective well-being were chosen as measures, which were implemented in a conversation for the conversational agent. This conversation was constructed with input from experts in psychology, conversational agents and communication. The designed conversation was used to gather a dataset. The transcribed conversation data in this dataset was analyzed. Finally, information extraction and classification techniques were created to extract useful information from the data about someone’s well-being. All in all, this research serves as a proof-of-concept of a method to design a conversation based on well-being models and to automatically extract information about the person’s well-being from this conversation. |
