Abstract:The global importance, impact, and relevance of the agricultural sector have been increasing over the last 20-30 years. Organisations in this sector collaborate across national borders. However, current literature lacks on how cultural differences may result in challenges that organisations have to cope with due to international operations, resulting in the following RQ: "How can cultural mental model explain challenges in communication and international practices in high-tech agribusiness?”. Three types of cultural mental models are found which interfere and interact with each other. Cultural differences on national, agricultural, and organisational levels have become clear. Moreover, these differences explain the challenges mentioned by the interviewees regarding international communication and international business practices in the agricultural sector. Coping with the challenging differences can be done through the improvement of four pillars: cultural awareness within the organisation, employees' mindset of taking the extra mile, coordination of information shared, and the involvement of international employees.
