Abstract:The current digital society has led to a need for information literacy (IL) skills. Citizens need these skills to, for example, be critical when searching for online information. As a result, IL should be a part of a school’s curriculum. However, to teach IL, teachers need adequate IL skills, which is not always the case. Thus, the main research question of the study is ‘How can information literacy be improved amongst primary school teachers in the Netherlands?’. The current study consisted of different steps. First, an online questionnaire was randomly distributed amongst Dutch primary school teachers to determine the form that the intervention would take: an online environment, a brochure, a workshop on location or an online workshop. Second, the intervention was designed. Third, using convenience sampling, 14 teachers were found to take part in a pre- and posttest to see if the designed intervention had an effect on their IL skills. The tests showed no significant improvement after the teachers participated in the intervention. Despite the lack of significant results, this research could be a base for further research about improving primary educators’ information literacy skills.
