Abstract: | This thesis entails a content analysis concerning the experiences that coloured educators have with racism and how they use policies to prevent or battle this phenomenon. Specifically, this illustrative case study tries to shed a light on experiences that these educators have within their schools that are located in Twente. The aim is to provide an answer on the following research question: To what extent do educators with a non-white background perceive and have experience with different forms of racism within their schools and how do they use existing policies to combat or prevent this phenomenon? For this purpose, thirteen interviews were held with educators with a different ethnic background working in different schools located in Enschede, Hengelo and Almelo. With the help of concept-driven coding the data analysis was performed. This showed that, especially societal and institutionalized racism, was present in the schools in the perception of the educators. In terms of the policies, it became clear that the use and the knowledge on the existence of the anti-racism policy within their school were minimal. |
