Abstract:The Twentsche Kabelfabriek (TKF) is a cable manufacturer in the Netherlands for the worldwide market. The purpose of this research is to investigate whether it is possible to implement a statistical analysis method on the Coating line at TKF in order to reduce the process variation, optimize process control, and improve the production process of fibre optics cable. In order to implement a statistical analysis method, it is important to first examine the current performance of the Coating line and measurement system. However, the Measurement System Analysis in this research has demonstrated that one of the two measurement systems does not meet the acceptance standards. Furthermore, there are also many failures concerning the measurement procedure caused by operators. Therefore, it is recommended to include the measurement procedure in the training program. Furthermore, the studies regarding the performance of the coating lines have shown a lot of Out-of-Control situations when the control limits are considered. If the attenuation value of a fibre lies between the control limits, the system is In-Control. Otherwise, there is an Out-of-Control (OoC) situation. The implementation of Statistical Process Control (SPC) will reduce the process variation since the OoCs are detected sooner.
