Abstract: | Open e-learning courses such as MOOCs have low completion rates due to students’ lack of motivation. This is an issue as education is shifting to online platforms. This research explores the use of gamification and persuasive system design to create a software system to motivate users in learning data science. The proposed solution is developed via iterative design in three iterations, which are separately evaluated with potential end users. The results indicate that gamification can be a motivating tool in learning data science, showing potential for improving student motivation in e-learning platforms. |
