Abstract:Themans hang & sluitwerk BV is a small design and dealership company of door fitting products within the business-to-business (B2B) door fitting market. Due to changes within the market and internal motivation stated by the managing director, they are trying to incorporate sustainable development within their company. The importance of sustainable development is widely acknowledged within literature, corporations, and politics. However, most legislations and literature reports focus on large companies and multinationals. This thesis creates a normative and strategic level management framework to obtain sustainable development for Themans hang & sluitwerk BV. Additionally, the framework's application for other small and medium enterprises (SMEs) is researched. Assessing the characteristics and current situation of Themans identified multiple possibilities and limitations for the company to include sustainable development. Additionally, a literature study identified and translated the transition process towards sustainable development applicable to a SME. Together with the assessment of Themans, this resulted in a framework consisting of the following seven phases: project team formulation, preparation, strategy formulation, execute actions, evaluate actions, decide, and communicate. The framework was executed at Themans to identify possible alternations required for execution by Themans. The thesis result is a partly tested framework (project team formulation, preparation and strategy formulation phase). The executed parts of the framework provided Themans with a sustainable development mission, vision, and a set of sustainable development actions. Prioritisation of the sustainable development actions could not be finished during the project. The thesis ends with the recommendation to execute the framework in its completeness by Themans to initiate their corporate transition towards sustainable development.
