Abstract: | Mecal designs, produces, and installs Machine Support Frames (MSFs) for the semiconductor and imaging market on a global scale. These frames provide stability and lower vibration levels for the high-tech systems placed on top of them and make sure that these machines can operate at the best of their ability. An ongoing project aims to reduce the throughput time of one of their products. The purpose of this study is to contribute to this goal and to provide some solutions to reduce the throughput time of this product. To reach this goal, we mainly make use of the Theory of Constraints and the Lean methodology. We applied these theories to identify current issues, divided into the three types of waste according to the Lean framework, and created two value stream maps. We used this data in a discrete event simulation model to evaluate potential solutions to reduce the throughput time of the product. |
