Abstract: | The current project proposes an automation solution for a high precision peg-in-the-hole assembly operation where large amount of pegs have to be positioned within 5 micron radial accuracy inside pockets in a baseplate and glued. Due to long glue curing times, the solution must be capable of inserting at least 10 pegs in parallel. A solution is proposed based on ten identical five degree of freedom flexure manipulator and a flexure gripper. The compactness of the manipulators allows for using ten of them simultaneously. In combination with an assembly sequence strategy, a Coordinate Measurement Machine and standard fixturing components, the solution is capable of achieving the positioning accuracy and deemed feasible. |
