Abstract:Limited psycho-oncological support is a significant health disadvantage for patients with breast cancer. The development of new treatment options can expand the range of treatments available and thus support and strengthen unreached patient groups. An interplay of positive psychology and art therapy could be such a new treatment option. A feasibility randomized clinical trial is proposed to study the interplay between positive psychology and art therapy. Symptom burden was measured by the Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale. The participants’ experience and perception of positive art therapy were assessed with three open questions. Merged data analysis showed that symptom burden had decreased while participants found positive art therapy helpful and enjoyable. In future studies, a variation of the intervention and measurement tools used would be desirable.
