Abstract: | Within the wind energy team of the EFD group, a small-scale wind turbine was designed and manufactured in two collaborative MSc project studies. The initial design of the wind turbine was not extensively tested for structural integrity and power performance but during the design phase and some preliminary tests, it was already clear that there was room for improvements on this small-scale wind turbine. The objective of this study was to empirically determine the effect of the blade pitch angle and the wind speed on the performance of the small-scale wind turbine through wind tunnel experiments. Furthermore, an investigation was carried out to examine the performance under two conditions of partial obstruction of the wake expansion. The hypothesis being tested is whether the obstruction of the wake of the turbine has a significant impact on the turbine's performance. |
