Abstract: | The Dutch animal protection shelters and treats homeless animals and finds them a new home. This research focused on the work processes of veterinarians and vet technicians at three animal shelters. A gap is experienced between the demand and supply, which shows in high overtime hours for staff members and shifting of planned procedures. Therefore, we propose improvements to the current work processes and staff scheduling. To be able to decrease the experienced gap, the demand for the year 2023 is forecasted and we determine the performance of the currently used block schedule. With the performance, we can indicate the improvement areas. We propose thirteen improvement ideas which decrease the probability, expectation, and standard deviation of overtime for almost every staff member and animal shelter. Finally, we set up an implementation plan for three selected improvement ideas. |
