Abstract: | Almost 20% of the Dutch population are affected by low health literacy. People who experience low health literacy are more likely to develop chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes. People with type 2 diabetes need to exercise frequently and mind their nutritional intake to maintain their health. The Diameter app, developed by researchers from the University of Twente (UT) and Zorg Groep Twente (ZGT) is meant to support a healthy lifestyle for people with type 2 diabetes. The current version of the Diameter app does however not meet the needs for people with low health literacy. In this thesis possible implementations were explored to improve the navigation, the data input, the data display and the aesthetics of the Diameter app in such a way that it is understandable for people with low health literacy. A literature review was conducted to establish key-characteristics and other design elements suited for an interface for people with low health literacy. The iterative Creative Technology Design Process was applied to produce a new design for the Diameter app. |
