Abstract:During the R&D phase of an air-conditioning system, Vadac became familiar with the principle of using compressors and heat exchangers to increase the temperature. This then sparked the idea of implementing that technology in other applications as well. Compared to the residential sector, in industry there are already many more processes in which this principle is being applied. This is why there is still an opportunity for researching possible applications for this type of technology in energy consuming household devices. Also, because of the increasing energy prices, homes are nowadays facing the need to reduce their electricity consumption. And, because homes will be disconnected to gas networks in the future, a power friendly alternative could be very promising. In this study, a cascade heat pump system has been designed for a water boiler, a mathematical model is developed to predict the performance, and an experimental set-up is created to perform analyses on the physical system.
