Abstract:The goal of this study was to gain a better understanding of the changes that a conversational agent may make in terms of user behavioural engagement. A conversational agent is an artificial intelligence (AI) tool that may be employed in a variety of scenarios, including education. In the educational domain, it can assist teachers and help the students in their learning development. A dyad discussion with the participation of a conversational agent was intended to increase the users' behavioural engagement. In this study, 18 participants were asked to take place in an online experiment in which they held a dyad discussion in two Phases, one without Clair, our collaborative AI agent, and the other with Clair. According to the analysis, there is not a significant difference between the two Phases. This study is a good starting point for further research on the changes that a conversational agent can bring about.
