Abstract:Asthma is a common disease in pediatric care and affects nearly 80,000 children in the Netherlands. Mobile engagement platforms have positive effects on health outcomes, potentially reducing hospital admissions. Chat data from 30 participants of a previous study was analyzed in this qualitative retrospective study. Coding was performed using the RIAS method, and differences between age groups and genders were assessed using the Mann-Whitney U-test due to non-normal distribution of the data. The most common topics are the topics related to asthma symptoms. The updates of the (parents of) children with asthma are often in the presence or increase of symptoms. The majority of the reminders are sent in the last half of the chat conversation. Also the code 'Show compassion' is used much more consistently later in the chat conversation. The technical theme mainly consists of questions and problems with the devices. The questions are mainly asked in the first half of the chat and resolved through the chat. This study shows that the HCP responded faster than the participants. It might be important that protocols will have to be adapted according to differences in gender and age in order to meet the needs of the patients.
