Abstract:This thesis explores the significance of the SamenKwiek platform, which aims to connect service providers and customers in the field of preventive healthcare in response to the increasing demand for healthcare services caused by the aging population in the Netherlands. The objective is to investigate the methods for capturing maximum value through network externalities in the design and development of the platform. By examining the role of network externalities in user and provider growth, this study offers practical implications for the platform's development and success. The theoretical framework draws upon platform business models, network externalities, and value capture. The research methodology includes interviews with potential service providers and consumers. Strategies for asset providers include independent and partner-based marketing, incentives for participation, and emotional bonding. Asset consumers focus on independent and partner-based marketing, incentives for participation, and technical bonding. Derived values were determined for each strategy, playing a pivotal role in attracting and retaining users and providers on the platform. By implementing these strategies and continuously refining the platform, SamenKwiek can establish a positive feedback loop that drives growth and strengthens positive network externalities.
