Abstract: | This research investigates the performance of integrated policies between climate adaptation (CA) and energy transition (ET) at the local scale in the Netherlands. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study consists of a policy review, expert interviews, and a case study. The policy review evaluates the CA and ET policies of 24 municipalities, identifying policy instruments and integration strategies. Expert interviews provide insights from policymakers on policy effectiveness, challenges, and improvement opportunities. Additionally, a case study examines the practical implementation and outcomes of integrated CA and ET policies in a specific local context. This in-depth analysis assesses policy achievements, identifies barriers and drivers, and evaluates overall performance and impact. The findings reveal the presence and limitations of integrated CA and ET policies at the local scale. The policy review highlights common trends, while expert interviews offer perspectives from key stakeholders. The case study showcases practical examples and lessons learned. This research contributes to the knowledge base by providing a comprehensive assessment of integrated policies between climate adaptation and energy transition at the local scale in the Netherlands. The findings offer valuable insights for policymakers and researchers aiming to enhance policy integration and promote sustainable and resilient development. |
