Abstract: | One of the main governmental instruments in the cybersecurity system for a lot of countries are the National Cyber Security Strategies. These strategies contain a vision about the ideal position in cyberspace which are to be achieved by goals that are described in these strategies. This study compares the national cybersecurity strategies of the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. It focuses on how these strategies aim to influence cybersecurity, it compares the two strategies and it analyses their differences and similarities. This is done by answering the following research question: ‘’How do the national cybersecurity strategies aim to influence the cybersecurity in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom? ‘’ This question is answered by combining a coding analysis in Atlas.ti of the strategies, relevant literature, and interviews with cybersecurity experts. This study concludes what the main institutions and policies in cybersecurity are and explains the differences of the strategies by discussing what elements influence cybersecurity. One of the main relevant insights from this study are what the main focuses and aims of the strategies are, how much attention each focus point is given, and how the NCSS aims to handle and implement the actions. |
