Abstract: | More and more refugees flee their countries and settle themselves in a safe society to build a future. This research focuses on how NGOs in the Netherlands can facilitate refugee integration with digital tools. The main research question is ‘How are digital tools being used by NGOs to promote the integration of refugees in the Netherlands?’ In order to answer this research question, a few domains need to be analyzed and clarified, including autonomy of NGOs and implementation barriers. Semi-structured interviews with participants from three Dutch NGOs revealed that NGOs are lagging behind in their usage of digital tools, mostly because of the importance of the social aspect and the ignorance of refugees about digital technologies. There are however a lot of advantages to using digital tools, which encourages NGOs in the Netherlands to use them more in the future. The results of this research will provide new knowledge and possible solutions for improved integration of refugees in the Netherlands, which contributes to a more qualitative society with better integrated refugees. It is therefore beneficial for refugees as well as policy makers in the Netherlands and NGOs on a local level and paves the road for future research. |
