Abstract:The healthcare sector is facing problems that have a major impact on the accessibility of care. Moving healthcare to the home situation of the patient, using technology, may be a solution to these problems. Telemonitoring has different advantages, relating the patient and the provider. Technologies like telemonitoring are constantly changing, getting a clear picture of perceptions about telemonitoring can give better directions to upcoming developments. Semi-structured interviews were performed with nurses and nurse specialists from the pulmonary department of Isala. For setting up the interview guide, the UTAUT model was used. Collected data was analyzed via ATLAS.ti, using an inductive thematic analysis. Three pulmonary nurses and four nurse specialists were interviewed. The interviews were conducted in April and May of 2023. The analysis led to six separate themes about the perceptions, each containing different subthemes. Participants saw a lot of barriers in using double systems during telemonitoring. They noticed many positive effects for patients, but mostly noted variety in work tasks as a benefit for their own situation. Many participants were satisfied with the patient-provider relationship, as telemonitoring created a more personal connection. They also were divided about working alongside a virtual care center. In total, 51 different barriers and facilitators were found. The different constructs of the UTAUT model can be found in some of the themes and subthemes that were mentioned. The perceptions, barriers and facilitators can be seen as a starting point for successful implementation and usage of telemonitoring. The importance of each barrier and facilitator depends on the situation in which they are applied.
