Abstract: | This research investigates a three-dimensional flow phenomenon near hydraulic structures, characterized by jet-like flow and lateral nonuniformity. The study conducts numerical simulations (OpenFOAM) using the RANS turbulence model to understand flow characteristics and turbulence behavior. Placing the obstruction further upstream induces flow separation by reducing the lateral velocity gradient, while closer placement leads to flow attachment due to larger non-uniformity. Pressure fields were correlated with flow separation, showing adverse pressure gradients in separating flows and flow acceleration in attaching flows. The model demonstrated good agreement with measurements upstream but underpredicted turbulence and kinetic energy around the slope, revealing limitations of the RANS approach. |
