Abstract:The digital divide is particularly prominent amongst older adults, who encompass the largest group of individuals who are missing digital skills. This leads not only to a lack of independence amongst this group but also poses an obstacle to fulfilling basic needs and even accelerates cognitive decline[24]. As according to the United Nations [33], the victims of our digitally-accessible infrastructure are older adults, women, disabled individuals, minorities concerning ethnicity and linguistic groups, indigenous groups, and residents from poor and remote areas. This graduation project is going to narrow its scope to the group of older adults, as the accelerated aging of populations in developed countries poses as a massive amplifier of this problem. On the other hand, there are significant opportunities for adopters of modern technology in their daily lives, professional lives, and leisure time. This graduation project aims to use the latest research in learning, digital training, and serious gaming to propose a solution that will contribute to closing the digital divide. Through knowledge acquisition of the needs, barriers, and requirements of older adults in a scientifically-informed manner, a digital training tool is proposed. Moreover, leveraging the design process of CreaTe, an Escape room with digital components was designed and tested as a tool for increasing awareness about cybersecurity in older adults. After conducting user testing, it was found that the Escape room largely met expectations, showing promising potential in the field of digital training for older adults.
