Abstract: | This study explores the unique challenges small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) face during software development, focusing on process management and knowledge transfer. Obstacles include limited resources, frequent staff changes, an absence of established processes, difficulties in adapting methodologies, and complications in knowledge management. Through qualitative research, utilizing semi-structured interviews and the Gioia technique, the study delves into the specificities of process methodologies and knowledge management for SMEs. The findings present a targeted action plan for SMEs, offering solutions for process methodologies and innovative knowledge management techniques. For example, the potential blending of Agile and Lean strategies can address process challenges, while continuous learning and technology-supported collaboration can foster better knowledge sharing. These insights can transform challenges into growth opportunities, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in software development within SMEs. The results not only promise higher quality end products and an improved market position but also serve as a roadmap for future research and practical application in SME software development. The emphasis on process management and knowledge retention offers a fresh perspective, calling for a rethink in how SMEs approach these critical areas. |
