Abstract: | This thesis explores non-human intelligence in the Anthropocene, advocating a material interpretation to counter hierarchical implications and anthropocentrism. It traces intelligence's historical links to psychology as a property requiring agency. Critiquing this view, it employs Barad's agential realism to emphasize material perspectives, aligning with Delanda's assemblage theory to define intelligence as an emergent process. This paradigm shift challenges conventional notions, fostering nuanced narratives that integrate non-human entities. This study engages with what Latour (2017) calls the new geo-social question, facilitating conceptual, ethical and political responses to Anthropocene challenges. |
