Abstract:My thesis explores the impact of different MR technologies, optical see-through (Microsoft HoloLens 2) and video see-through (Meta Quest Pro), on the experience of motor rehabilitation for ABI patients. The research consists of four stages: (1) context exploration through interviews with ABI patients and therapists, (2) testing the technical aspects of the MR headsets with healthy participants, (3) designing rehabilitation games, and (4) evaluating the experiences of ABI patients and therapists using these technologies. Key findings reveal that the field of view (FoV) greatly affects user experience. A smaller FoV (HoloLens 2) led to difficulties in locating virtual objects and more frantic search behavior during tasks. However, participants in different postures (walking vs. seated) displayed varied behavior, impacting rehabilitation prospects as patient movement matters. Additionally, the image quality of the real world was perceived differently by healthy participants and ABI patients probably due to postural and attention differences. Though, it is expected that ABI patients' indifference might contribute to less expressive responses. The study underscores the importance of considering individual MR system features in rehabilitation, as they impact user experience, behavior, and ultimately, recovery potential. Future research should motivate the choice of technology and address its influence on rehabilitation outcomes.
