Abstract:This study aimed to investigate Virtual Reality (VR) adoption in the relationship with simulator sickness and user attitudes in VR gaming. A laboratory study was conducted with 47 participants going through gaming sessions. Results showed a significant relationship between the willingness to adopt VR with individuals' attitudes toward VR; a significant influence from VR exposure to perceived simulator sickness; however, no significant correlation was found between VR users' perceived simulator sickness and their attitudes toward VR. It is also found that simulator sickness is not mediated by the relationship between the two psychological dispositions of prior attitudes toward technology, presented as technophilia/technophobia and attitudes toward VR. Yet, both technophilia and technophobia demonstrated predictive power in relation to simulator sickness. In conclusion, our study highlights the significance of prioritizing individuals' attitudes to enhance their willingness to adopt VR technology. Furthermore, the adoption of trial experiences and the application of human-centered design principles in VR experience design emerge as effective strategies to positively influence individuals' readiness to adopt this technology. Moving forward, further exploration of the intricate relationship between prior attitudes and perceived simulator sickness remains a valuable avenue for future research.
