Abstract:In this thesis the influence of rising energy prices on the energy conservation behaviors and attitudes of lower-income households is tested. The sub-questions answered in this thesis are 1. What are the specific changes in energy conservation behaviors exhibited by lower-income households in response to rising energy prices? 2. What factors, such as financial constraints or knowledge about energy conservation, influence the attitudes of lower-income households towards energy conservation in the face of increasing energy prices? During this study a qualitative approach was employed, and semi-structured interviews with six respondents from the salvation army were conducted. The results from this analysis showed a pattern among the respondents as they all showed proactive approaches towards energy saving and were willing to adopt energy saving measures to reduce the energy costs within their households. Behaviors of the respondents were shaped by the influence of families which turned out to be significant factors in this thesis. The result of the analysis provides a clear understanding of how the surroundings of the respondents shape their behaviors.
