Abstract:Citizen science projects involve a range of stakeholders, beyond citizens and scientists, who contribute to and benefit from research. These participating organizations play various roles, offering expertise and guidance. Existing literature mainly explores scientists' motives, leaving a gap in understanding the broader stakeholder landscape. This study investigates multiple stakeholders in a single case study on an air pollution project. Interviews and observations revealed 13 motives categorized into four themes. Collectivity, a blend of curiosity, data collection, shared learning, connection making, and personal factors motivates stakeholders to participate in citizen science.
