Abstract:Businesses in the past used to hold a perspective where employees were seen as replaceable and able to be controlled by money. However, that perspective cannot hold anymore, as individuals do not focus solely on money when taking a job. This shows that money does not equal power anymore, but people do. From this, businesses needed to adapt. They shifted towards a new approach; the People-First approach. This approach centers around the employee, whereby there is an increased focus from the organization to employees' needs. Proper execution of the approach can provide the added value to work the employee is searching for. Contradictory to the associated importance, there is only a small body of work discussing what constitutes to employees' perception of the People-First approach. This blurs the vision as to how to properly execute the People-First approach and reap the benefits thereof. For this reason, this research examines what constitutes employees' perceptions of a university People-First approach.
